It is the night before Christmas and it doesn't feel like Christmas to me.
I live in Canada and we have no snow on the ground for Christmas 2006. Worse still - there is little hope that there will be snow on the ground by the morning. Today it was sunny with temperatures well above the freezing mark. Certainly makes one think.
It was all starting to get to me. Then I remembered the Mindful Moment that I wrote for Christmas last year! As I went back into the archives and re-read it, I was reminded that Christmas has little to do with presents piled up under the tree, or snow piled up in the driveway. Christmas isn't about what is in your stocking, it's about what is in your heart.
And with that, I present you a reminder from a ghost of Christmas Past, played by my three-year old son (who is now four and brimming with even more wisdom!).

Mindful Moment from December 25th, 2005
As many of you know, I have a three year old son. My son loves to sing. In fact, he sings all the time. And the best thing about his singing, is that he has such great enthusiasm, he doesn't worry about getting the words correct.
Lately he's been singing all sorts of Christmas carols. Last week he decided that he wanted to sing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". What actually came out was a brand new song. It goes:
"I wish you WERE a Merry Christmas,
I wish you WERE a Merry Christmas,
I wish you WERE a Merry Christmas,
And a happy new YOU."
The more I think about his version, the more I like it! What better sentiment than to wish that people actually embody the spirit of Christmas? Wouldn't the world be a better place if people tried to LIVE the holiday spirit year round?
And what about the last line of my son's version? "And a happy new YOU." What more can you wish for someone?
So on behalf of my son, my daughter, my wife and I, let me take this opportunity to wish that each and every one of you were a Merry Christmas and that you experience a happy new you.
