For most of us the concept of dying is pretty abstract. We know that it will happen to us, but it seems so far away. After all, we've got busy lives to live - right?
For most of us, it takes a catastrophic event to change that way of thinking. To shake us out of the comforting delusion that death is just an abstract concept that is far off in the future.
For most of us, things changed five years ago today. (September 11, 2001)
08:45h - same old way of thinking.
08:46h - everything changed.
Now here's the really tough question: How long did it take for you to go back to thinking of death as an abstraction that is far off in the future?
I believe that the real lesson of September 11, 2001 had nothing to do with oil, world politics or religion. For me, the real lesson of that morning was a chilling reminder of the uncertainty that we all face. We need to be Mindful of each and every moment that we have.
So as a tribute to those who died on September 11, 2001 I suggest that you hug your loved ones extra tight today!
