My manager, Allan, never has bad days. He has made up his mind that there are only two kinds of days: "good days" and "great days". I must say that I admire his outlook on things!
Our outlook certainly goes a long way towards determining our outcomes, but life has a way of keeping us on our toes and always making things interesting. We cannot predict or control what kind of day we will be dealt, we can only control our reactions. Life remains full of uncertainty. And frankly, I'm happy for the uncertainty - it's what makes life worth living!
Whether today finds you experiencing a "bad day", a "good day" or a "great day", please keep one thing in mind... THIS is the only TODAY there will ever be. The same can be said about each hour and about each moment. As I said in my book, "ONCE is exactly how many times today comes around!" This basic truth is a double-edged sword.
On the one hand, we can do our best to move beyond the "bad days" with the mantra that "tomorrow is another day". We can choose to view each day as a blank canvas with the mistakes and missteps of the previous day wiped clean by the night. We can create our days fresh each morning. (See a previous Mindful Moment on the concept of creating your days.)
On the other hand, we don't get to hang on to the "great days". Sure, we have fond memories about the great days, and we can take photos and videos of fantastic events and big moments in our lives and we can even make scrapbooks to commemorate the "great days". But the same truth remains - tomorrow is another day, the night wipes clean the events of the previous day and once again it is up to us to create our new day.
So do yourself a huge favor and make sure that you are actually LIVING each and every moment of each and every day that you are given!

I've had a tremendous response to my Page-A-Day product "YOUR EXPIRY DATE - 365 Personal Expiry Dates for Daily Living". It works like a page-a-day calendar, but it has no dates (so you can start any time). At the beginning of the 'calendar' you are challenged to accept your own mortality and the fact that today could be your last day. Then each new page lists the number of "bonus days" that you have enjoyed since you started the 'calendar'. Each page provides you with a quote, reminder or short exercise. BUT HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART. When you finish a day, you must tear off the page and throw it away!
I've had many people say, "No. I want to keep that particular quote and put it up in my office or on the fridge." I always give the same answer - "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" You can't hang onto these 'days', just like you can't hang on to the your real days. Your real days come and they go. If you start to do the same with the pages of YOUR EXPIRY DATE, you'll have a whole new appreciation for how precious each day truly is!
