There is a small amusement part about 20 minutes from my house. It's been there for years, and we have driven past it a hundred times, but so far we haven't gotten around to taking our kids there.
Today my wife suggested that this would be a good weekend to finally take them. We were all so excited! My wife looked on the Internet to find the hours and admission prices, but what she found instead shocked us.
Their website carried a notice that the park was purchased last November by an investment company who are planning to turn it into a retail, hotel and office complex. The website says: "the Waterpark, Go Karts and Amusement Rides have permanently closed."
Have you taken advantage of the "tourist attractions" that are in your own backyard? I live near Toronto, Canada - home of the tallest freestanding tower in the world, the CN Tower. Yet many people I know have only been to the CN Tower because they were taking out-of-town guests. I also know many others who've never been up the tower. They either feel that it is just for tourists or they assume that they will get around to it "one day".
So today I want to suggest that you take a look at the places and attractions in your own backyard that you've always taken for granted. If you've always said that you'd get around to them "one day" then please consider the predicament that my family finds itself in with regard to our local amusement park. I don't want you to end up hearing the words "permanently closed".
By the way... you should also ask yourself if there are any people that you are taking for granted.
ENJOY NOW!
