In my Mortality Manifesto I wrote "I do not waste
time worrying about the future".
This week, I was reminded that "worrying" is not
the only thing one can do when thinking about the
future.
I am happy to announce that my wife and I are
expecting our second child! The due date is
November 4th, 2005 - just a few weeks away - and we
are very excited!
At the beginning of this past weekend, my wife
and I, along with our three-year old son, were out
for a drive. We were talking about when the baby
would arrive. What names we might use. Our son was
saying that he is excited to become a big brother.
And we were all discussing how exciting and
challenging it will be to have a newborn thrown into
the mix. Without really realizing it - we were
living firmly in the future. Not a future filled
with fears or worries. But we were definitely living
in the future.
And then my wife said something that brought me
instantly back to the present. She said, "This will
be one of the last times that it will be just the
three of us."
I can tell you, it put a whole new perspective on
things for me! By focussing too much on how
wonderful the future will be - I was failing to
recognize just how good we have it in the present
too.
Whether we think that the future will be a
catastrophe or a triumph, we've got to remember that
our job is simply to be mindful of the present. I
recently heard a song that reminds us that "tomorrow's just your future
yesterday".
ENJOY NOW!

..in five years, these be the good
old days
There is no future there is only now
let's cherish these moments that we now know.
