MINDFUL MOMENT
2005 10 02 - Deepak Chopra on Death
This past weekend I attended a lecture by Deepak
Chopra. I was fortunate enough to be able to
sit down and spend some time with him before the
event.
I presented
him with a copy of my book,
What's YOUR Expiry Date? and we
discussed the concept of embracing your own
mortality. He thanked me for the book and said that
he was looking forward to reading it.
Later, during his lecture, he spoke about the
subject of death, and when I heard his comments, I
understood why he said that he was looking forward
to reading my book! I'd like to share some of those
comments with you now.
The fear of death is the basis of
all other fears. It is the fear of letting go of
the known and the fear of stepping into the
unknown.
...someday, we are all going to die. What is
death?
Death is the ticket to life.
The Vedanta says we must die to every moment.
In St. Paul's words: "Die unto death itself", which
means to have the ability to relinquish the known
and step into the unknown in every moment of every
day. We live, breath and move in the unknown
because everything that we call "known" is the past. Everything we call "the known" is the past -
it is dead already.
So don't pretend to live in what doesn't
exist. Have the ability to move into the
unknown.
ENJOY NOW!
