This weekend I saw the new movie Batman Begins. As I was watching, a line from the movie jumped right out at me. The line is:
It's not who you are are underneath, it's what you do that defines you.
I have given that particular line a lot of thought and I whole-heartedly agree with it. We are defined by the deeds that we do much more than by the thoughts or intentions in our hearts or minds.
For example, one might consider one's self to be a very honest, thoughtful and charitable person, but what use are those good intentions if one's daily actions aren't the actions of an honest, thoughtful and charitable person?
Now let me clarify something. This is not about how you appear to others. Nor is it about what others think about you. It is about achieving an inner, personal balance.
We need to ensure that our thoughts (or "who you are are underneath") are accurately reflected in our deeds (or "what you do that defines you"). If those two areas are not balanced, then you will have problems.
Too often we say one thing and do another - always assuming that there will be time to make amends later. But what if we don't have enough time to fix things?
This is why we would do well to define ourselves by our daily actions and to ensure that they are in balance with our thoughts and intentions.
ENJOY NOW!
