I used to live next door to a firefighter, but he moved a couple of weeks ago. This weekend I met my new neighbor for the first time. He is a corrections officer and works at a nearby penitentiary.
We had a brief discussion about what his job is like. Interestingly, my new neighbor and my old neighbor both have something in common. Their jobs involve waiting for something to happen, while simultaneously hoping that nothing does happen. As a soldier, my brother's "job description" is much the same. Police officers, ambulance drivers - in fact any emergency personnel are all in similar situations.
When you first think about it, this may seem like a strange way to live - training for something and hoping that your training is never used. But the more I think about it, the more I realize that many of us live this way.
Many people SAY that they want positive changes in their lives. They may even actively WORK towards achieving those changes. (Upgrading their education to get a better career. Starting their own business. Attending personal therapy or relationship counseling.) But all too often, people will back away just when they are about to make a huge change. The fact of the matter is that even positive change is first and foremost A CHANGE and too many of us fear any sort of change.
This week I want you to honestly ask yourself if fear might be keeping you from reaching some of the goals or dreams towards which you are working.
ENJOY NOW!
