This week, I was speaking to Nancy, who is probably the friend I've known the longest - we went to kindergarten together! During our conversation, the topic of my Mindful Moment newsletter came up. Nancy has been receiving them for almost a year now.
She told me that she really looks forward to reading them each week and that they often strike her as very "heavy" and always get her thinking about some big questions. I was really happy to hear that!
My intention with Mindful Moment is not to add yet another fluffy, feel-good e-mail to your "INBOX", but to get you thinking! Thinking about the BIG questions.
I smiled when Nancy said,"it's all of those capital Y-O-U 's that you use. Like: 'What are YOU doing?' 'What are YOU going to do?' I can almost feel the finger pointing at me through the screen."
I use this technique to move people to action. There is a difference between a good idea and something you actually follow through with. Most people would agree that it's a good idea to have a last will and testament, but how many actually have one? Most people would agree that it's a good idea to get enough sleep, exercise and eat properly, but how many do? Most people know that they should spend less than they earn and invest the difference, but do they?
I believe that it comes down to a question of ownership. We can know something at a logical or intellectual level, but unless we take ownership of it and bring it down to a deeper, emotional level, we won't follow through.
Throughout all of my speaking, writing and coaching I encourage people to take ownership of their situations, take ownership of their decisions and ultimately to take ownership of their lives.
The scariest thing about your life is that it's completely up to YOU.
But on the other hand -
The most exciting thing about your life is that it's completely up to YOU.
Think about that Nancy (and YOU too)!
ENJOY NOW!
