Saturday, November 13th
2004 was a very remarkable day for me.
Just after lunch, my wife and I loaded our son
into the car and drove an hour and a half to my
uncle's house. When we arrived, numerous relatives
greeted us. I visited with an aunt and uncle that I
haven't seen in over 25 years and I met four first
cousins that I had never met in my life. We had a
great time!
That evening, my wife and I left our son with her
parents and went to a party that was being held by
my best friend. Around 30 of our friends had
gathered for a very classy party, complete with
wonderful jazz music played by live musicians!
So why did I start out by saying that this was a
remarkable day? Not just because it was a busy day.
Not just because I had a fantastic time at both
events. What I found completely remarkable is that
there is absolutely NOTHING remarkable
about November 13th!
These events weren't in honour of anyone's
birthday, anniversary or graduation. They weren't
part of any christening, wedding or funeral. Nor
did they have anything to do with traditional
holidays like thanksgiving or Christmas.
My cousins, uncles and aunts just decided to get
everyone together. For no other reason that to
spend time with each other! My friend just decided
that it was time he gathered all of his friends to
have a fun evening together.
Isn't that refreshing?
As the holiday season approaches, we often look
forward to spending time with family and friends.
This is a wonderful idea and perhaps the best thing
about the holidays. But why do so many of us limit
these kinds of gatherings to "special occasions"?
I suggest that you take the initiative!
Turn any day into a remarkable day!
ENJOY NOW!

I might not have that long
