MINDFUL MOMENT
2004 08 08 - Celebrate Every Day

Today, August 8th 2004, is my son's second birthday!

It's amazing how time flies by! I can clearly remember my wife waking me up to tell me that the contractions had started. I remember checking into the hospital. I remember the first time I saw my son. And it all seems like yesterday!

Looking back over the two years, I can't believe how much he's grown, how much he's learned and how much my wife and I love him.

People certainly change a lot between birth and two years old. Every day seems magical and filled with mystery, wonder and discovery! Every event, no matter how insignificant, is worthy of celebration and we treasure each moment.

So why does that stop when we get older? Why is it that we don't look at the difference between 30 and 32, 50 and 52 or 80 and 82 with the same awe and respect that we reserve for those first years of a child's life?

I know that I'm a different person today than I was two years ago! What about you? Yet how often do we, as adults, look at it as "just another year", "just another month" and "just another day" ?

Don't let this week be "just another week"! Don't ever lose that sense of excitement and amazement at being alive. Celebrate every day!

Happy Birthday Benjamin!

ENJOY NOW!

People have collective stories which are mental perspectives and mental positions. Of course, when they explain it to you, it sounds absolutely right. Then you go to the other story, and they explain it to you, and that sounds absolutely right. Both are so entrenched in their narrative, their mental positions and their identifications with mental positions that they cannot see anything else. That really symbolizes the very thing that lies at the core of human dysfunction.
