MINDFUL MOMENT
2004 02 01 - More

Who wants more?

We ALL want more! Don't we?

  • More time
  • More energy
  • More money
  • More love
  • More happiness
  • More freedom
  • More joy
  • More excitement
  • More dessert!

As human beings, it's natural to always want "more". But it's also dangerous.

The first danger with constantly wanting "more" is that we can forget how much we already have and we can begin to take our current abundance for granted. If you are reading this, it means that you:
a) are literate
b) have a computer
c) are connected to the Internet
How much further ahead does that put you in the global perspective?

If we stop and acknowledge how much we already have, we may find that the constant drive to be more, see more, do more and have more will subside. After all, at what point will we be satisfied?

The second danger is that striving for "more" keeps us focused on the future and not on the present moment. This leads to something I call the "Once Trap".

I'll be happy once I have...
I'll spend more time with my family once...
I'll take better care of myself once...

The entire focus of my Mindful Moment writings is to remind people that we can only live NOW. We can't live in the future or the past. If we are too focused on "more", we are too focused on the future and we will miss the lessons that the present has for us.

I believe that if we are mindful of each moment and mindful of how much we already have, it will help us achieve the proper perspective on what we really need.

ENJOY NOW!
Patrick Mathieu
