2004 01 18 - Don't Cheat Yourself

I couldn't agree more, Henry!

How often do we cheat ourselves out of happiness? Too often!

Happiness, like everything else in life, can only be experienced in the present. When you are mindful and focused on the present moment, you dramatically increase your ability to receive happiness. This is because fear and doubt come from focusing either on the past or the future. And as we all know, fear and doubt are enemies of happiness.

When we think of happiness, we often think of the BIG things in life that make us happy. But don't cheat yourself out of all of the thousands of things that can bring happiness in any given day.

  • The beauty of a sunrise.
  • A fresh pot of coffee.
  • An easy commute.
  • A parking space near the door.
  • A delicious lunch.
  • Sunshine on your face.
  • A productive meeting.
  • A great phone call.
  • The greetings from loving family members.
  • Stimulating dinner conversation.
  • Relaxing by the fire.
  • A warm bed and a soft pillow.

How many of these little pleasures do we miss because we are focused elsewhere?

Happiness is ours for the taking! Let's go get some!
