MINDFUL MOMENT
2003 12 28 - New Year's Prescription

If you've been reading "Mindful Moment" for any length of time, or if you've seen me speak or read the first chapter of my book (available on my website), you'll know that I believe that every day is special. For me, each and every day is like the beginning of a new year. I have found that thinking this way really helps me make better decisions.

Here is my prescription for you in the remaining days of 2003. I'll keep it short and simple!

First, take some time to reflect on the past year.

Notice I said "reflect", not "dwell". Our past setbacks do not condemn our future. Likewise, our past successes do not guarantee our future. So reflect on the lessons 2003 had to teach you and think of how you will apply these lessons in 2004.

Next, I suggest that you spend some time thinking about your intentions for 2004.

Notice I said "intentions", not "goals" or "resolutions". What do you intend to think about, do and become in 2004?

And my final word of advice is to remain mindful of the big picture (your intentions) but to realize that these intentions can only be achieved in the moment. We all need the proper combination of "big picture thinking" and "focus on the now"!

ENJOY NOW!
Patrick Mathieu
